The CWC Angels Projects are community based outreach programs that seek to improve the well-being of children and adults in our community.
We proudly sponsor and organize the following community projects:
Helping adult athletes participate in the Special Olympics
The CWC Angels help send adult athletes—who attend CWC programs—to the area Summer and Winter Special Olympics games. In conjunction with other fundraisers throughout the year, this program ensures that every consumer who wishes to compete may do so—whether they can afford it or not. The Angels program covers expenses including registration, meals, team attire, and training materials. Businesses and individuals often help by “sponsoring” an athlete. CWC provides employee coaches and transportation. Working together, CWC, Angels, athlete sponsors, and generous donors have sent hundreds of adults to the Special Olympics since the program’s inception.
“Back to School” Store: Helping children start off the school year
Our annual School Store opens for a limited time each year for children to come in and shop, readying themselves for the new school year with supplies and clothing. Originally intended to fill “back to school” needs of children served by the CWC, we have expanded over the years to also assist children in our communities and children of CWC employees. Although most of our shoppers acutely need this help to be ready for the school year, we choose to emphasize life skills and personal responsibility, rather than need.
Children are given a “checkbook” in which they earn deposit slips by doing good deeds. When a child visits the school store they trade the “checkbook deposits” for “CWC cash” to shop with. They can purchase most of their school supplies while practicing budgeting, money management, and interpersonal skills. Children are also given new or gently used clothing items. Children are given the choice to bring a food donation to benefit a local food cupboard. This unique project has welcomed over two thousand shoppers since it began in the summer of 2000.
Adult Marketplace: Helping adults with special needs
Adults with special needs are not forgotten at our School Store. Within the walls of the store, you’ll also find the Adult Marketplace - an area designed especially for adults served by CWC. Using a modified CWC “checkbook” recognizing community works over fifty adults visit the store annually. A wide variety of personal and gift products are available. Whether it might be some art supplies, or a backpack, hats, jewelry, playing cards, or household items, there’s a lot to choose from! This cashfree store is a wonderful shopping experience and an eagerly awaited event for both children and adults.
Holidays for Kids
The holidays can be a stressful time for families. CWC offers help by acknowledging children that the CWC serves with a small gift through our Holidays for Kids project. We currently provide gifts for over three hundred children throughout the area each year. In addition to that, Angels organizes the CWC Wish Tree. This helps match up donors—predominately CWC employees—with children who otherwise wouldn’t be receiving gifts at the holidays.
Funding is provided in three ways:
