Piscataquis County Jail Counseling
Clinical counseling services (individual and group) are provided for offenders, inclusive of local, federal, and boarder populations, who are serving sentences at the Piscataquis Jail.
Batterer’s Intervention Program
This is an alternative to detention programs. It is a Court certified, 48 week, “New York Model,” Batterer’s Program providing alternative sentencing to offenders convicted of domestic violence. The intention of this model of intervention is to stop the cycle of violence through education and accountability. We work closely with the local Family and Domestic Violence programs, the Court system, and the Department of Probation and Parole.
Memphis Model Crisis Intervention Training
A Federal Byrne Grant funded project to train law enforcement; dispatchers; emergency medical technicians, and affiliated public service employees in the internationally recognized Memphis model of de-escalation intervention techniques for interventions with people affected by elevated levels of psychiatric crises. This unique rural program is presented annually at the International CIT Conference, and has been instrumental in assisting other rural communities in developing their own unique programs.
Community Corrections Advisory Committee
This committee was founded in 1994 as an oversight vehicle for the Batterer’s Intervention Program. It is a totally volunteer committee consisting of Charlotte White Center, Womancare, Piscataquis County Jail, District Attorney’s Victim Witness Advocate, Community Health and Counseling Services, Mayo Regional Hospital, and other public safety programs. This committee has been instrumental in writing grants, addressing community concerns, as well as implementation of the internationally recognized Piscataquis County Regional Crisis Intervention Team training program. The intake procedure involves gathering all the data necessary to determine eligibility, including previous evaluations and test results.
