Charlotte White Center’s Supported Employment Program includes; job coaching, job placement, and long-term support for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities who are seeking employment options within the context of CWC’s Employment Support Programs.

Individuals receive customized support services intended to assist them in locating, obtaining, and keeping vocational opportunities in support of goals and objectives identified through their annual plan.

The Supported Employment Program assists individuals in obtaining and maintaining employment. Supported Employment implements a teaching approach that provides practical knowledge, specific skills training, interventions and the personal development of consumer resources.

Services provided by this program include conducting interviews with the individual and his/her family and friends, task analysis, job analysis, and community assessments gathered by observing the consumer’s skills while he/she is in the community. CWC staff also assess employment and community support, facilitate and coordinate support, and assist with career planning. On-site training is available. Functional and technical skills needed for the individual to perform the tasks of the job are also taught.

CWC staff provides the minimal amount of prompting in order to eventually decrease the amount of support needed for the individual to complete his/her job. CWC staff also coaches co-workers in interacting with individuals utilizing augmentative communication devices, and facilitates social interaction so that the individual can develop a natural foundation on the job, with supervision and support. CWC staff also performs marketing surveys.
