Community Champion Awardee: Dr. Lesley M. Fernow, MD, FACP

A Community Champion works hard and well to start and/or support an initiative or intervention, to bring a program or idea to reality, or to otherwise improve the quality of life of a particular group or the community as a whole.

Dr. Fernow was selected as our first Community Champion awardee as she is a generous and tireless community leader and advocate for the underserved.  She has the insight and vision to conceive the projects and activities aimed at improving life for everyone in the community, as well as the heart and determination to plunge in and make them work at every level.  Whether it's doctoring frail, older adults in their homes, measuring windows in local homes for the Window Dressers heat retention project, writing grants for the Maine Highlands Senior Center, chairing the Falls Reduction committee for the Piscataquis Thriving in Place Collaborative, or convening a QiGong class at Center Theatre, Dr. Fernow is completely present and devoted to the cause.  Dr. Fernow has high expectations, holding others accountable for their actions - or inaction - and she never relaxes the standard for herself.  Her love for humanity and robust sense of humor seem to fuel her constant concern for, and commitment to, the public good.  We are proud to honor Dr. Lesley M. Fernow, MD, FACP!
